DAY 1: Mardin - Church of the Forty Martyrs - Grand Mosque - Kasimiye Medrese - Deyrul Zaferan - Ancient City of Dara
We begin to explore the museum city of Mardin with our guide who is waiting for us. Our first stop here is the Church of Mor Behrem. After receiving information from the church staff, we will take a walk through Mardin's narrow streets to see and photograph the Mardin Museum, Latifiye Mosque, and one of the region's most significant structures, the Grand Mosque. Afterwards, we will visit the PTT building that has hosted many series and films, and after visiting Şehidiye Mosque and Medrese, we will pass through the Abbaras, which are symbols of Mardin, and board our vehicle to reach the Kasimiye Medrese. We will learn about the philosophy of the eyvan in the extraordinary architecture that provided university-level education during the Seljuk period, and after completing our tours, we will set our course for the Deyrulzafaran Monastery, which was the center of the Syriac people in the world until 1932. After gaining information about the monastery, we head to Dara, known as the Ephesus of Mesopotamia. In this ancient city on the Silk Road, we will examine the remains of the world's first water dam, the fire towers dedicated to the god Ahura Mazda of the Achaemenids in ancient times, and the remnants of fortresses (Daras Anastasiupolis), churches, bridges, water channels, water cisterns, bazaars, rock tombs, and civil residential buildings, while our interactions with the local people and their efforts to showcase the nuances of Mesopotamian hospitality will prove once again how strong tolerance and love are in the region. After leaving a part of our hearts here, if time and opportunity permit, we will visit the splendid area of Beyaz Su, described as a piece of heaven with its cool waters, and then we will arrive at our hotel in Mardin. Dinner and accommodation will be at our hotel.
DAY 2: Midyat – Estel - Mor Barsarmo Church - Mor Sharbhel Church - Mor Abraham Monastery - Mor Gabriel Monastery-
After breakfast at our hotel, we move to Midyat, which is referred to as little Mardin. After our free time at the Telkari market, we will reach the terrace of the guesthouse that has hosted many series. Here, we will immortalize beautiful photos of the unique local yellow cut stone architecture and various views, followed by visits to Mor Gabriel Monastery, known as DEYRULUMUR among the Syriacs. After our visits in Midyat, we will transfer to Estel and, after lunch, visit other churches and drop off our guests in the market for free time… afterwards, we will approach the end of our program to say goodbye.
We hope to meet again in another GÖNCÜ TOURISM organization.
