Tour Detail
DAY 1: URFA- MUSEUM-GÖBEKLİTEPE
We begin getting to know Şanlıurfa with our guide who is waiting for us. First we visit the HALİL-ÜR RAHMAN MOSQUE – AYN ZELİHA (BALIKLI GÖL) – RIZVANİYE MOSQUE and the cave where Prophet Abraham was born, Sipahi Bazaar, Kazzaz Bazaar, Hacı Kamil Inn, Hüseyiniye Market, Naccar Bazaar, the Historical Customs Inn, Ulucami and the Kitchen Museum, then we tour the archaeology museum and the mosaic museum. Afterwards, the road takes us to Göbeklitepe, one of the most important archaeological discoveries in human history, dating back about 12,000 years, which deeply shakes the accepted facts of known written history and is believed to be the first pilgrimage center. "Göbeklitepe, one of the oldest known temples based on studies conducted to date, is located in the Mesopotamia region. Göbeklitepe presents data of importance regarding religious belief in hunter-gatherer societies. Göbeklitepe, which we will examine architecturally and then socio-economically, provides information about how people of that period could create a sacred space to practice their unconventional beliefs, and enlightens us about their religion, religious symbols, technology and sciences." Then we will transfer to our hotel for the night (extra), and after plenty of fun we will rest and prepare for the next day.
DAY 2: HARRAN-SOGMATAR-KARAHAN TEPE
Breakfast at the hotel. Then we set off for Harran. Here, we visit the conical-roofed mud-brick Harran houses, the ancient ruins of Harran University, which is considered the world's first Islamic university, the historical Harran Castle from the period when Harran was the capital of the Umayyads, and the Harran walls surrounding Harran, and the tomb of the famous sheikh of the region, Hayat el-Harran'i. After that we head to Sogmatar. The site dating to the Roman period (2nd century AD) has been scientifically identified as a cult center where the Harranians worshipped moon and planet deities in the Tektek Mountains region during the Abgar Kingdom period. At the Sogmatar cult site there is a cave where the moon god Sin was worshipped (Pognon Cave), a hill with divine reliefs and inscriptions carved into the ground on its slopes (Sacred Hill), 6 square and round-plan mausoleums (Monument Tombs), an inner citadel, and numerous rock tombs carved into the bedrock. Afterwards we head to Karahantepe, the new discovery in world history, whose excavations, 400 years older than Göbeklitepe, are not yet finished, specially prepared for you. After our exciting and information-filled tour, having been almost among the first guests of this important discovery, we see our guests off at the airport to say goodbye…
Hoping to meet again on another CEMGÖNCÜ TOURISM organization
