DAY 1: URFA-GÖBEKLİTEPE
We head towards Göbeklitepe with our guide waiting for us at the airport. Göbeklitepe, one of the most important archaeological discoveries in human history, dates back 12,000 years and deeply challenges the truths of written history as we know it, believed to be the first pilgrimage site. Göbeklitepe, one of the oldest temples known due to the work done until today, is located in the Mesopotamia region. Göbeklitepe presents significant data on religious beliefs in hunter-gatherer societies. We will explore the architectural and later socio-economic aspects of Göbeklitepe, which provides insights into how people of that era could create a sacred space to experience their groundbreaking beliefs, along with information about their religion, religious symbols, technology, and sciences.
After completing our visit to Göbeklitepe, we head back to the center. We visit and explore HALIL-UR RAHMAN MOSQUE – AYN ZELİHA (BALIKLI GÖL) – RIZVANİYE MOSQUE and the cave where Hz. Ibrahim was born, Sipahi Market, Kazzaz Market, Hacı Kamil Inn, Hüseyiniye Bazaar, Naccar Market, Historical Customs Inn, Ulucami and the Kitchen Museum, and then we visit the archaeological museum and the mosaic museum. Afterward, we take you to our hotel for accommodation.
DAY 2: MARDİN-DARA
After breakfast at the hotel;
We set off towards the museum city of Mardin. Our first stop here is Mor Behram Kırklar Church. After obtaining information from the church official, we continue our walk through the narrow streets of Mardin to see and photograph the Mardin Museum, Latifiye Mosque, and one of the most important structures in the region, the Grand Mosque. We then visit the PTT building, which has hosted many series and films, and after visiting the Şehidiye Mosque and Medrese, we pass through the Abbaras, which are symbols of Mardin, and board our vehicle to reach the Kasımiye Medrese. We learn about the courtyard philosophy of the Southeastern culture at this extraordinary architecture that offered education at the level of a university during the Seljuk period. After completing our visits, we head towards the Deyrulzafaran Monastery, which was the center of the world’s Syriac people until 1932. After gathering information about the monastery, we proceed to Dara, known as the Ephesus of Mesopotamia. In this ancient city on the Silk Road, we examine the remnants of the world’s first water dam, and it is found that in ancient times, people believed in Ahura Mazda, the god of the Achaemenids, and built a number of fire towers, fortresses (Daras Anastasiupolis), churches, bridges, water channels, water cisterns, bazaars, rock tombs, and residential building remnants. The cordial interactions with the local people and their efforts to present us with the subtleties of Mesopotamian hospitality will once again prove how strong tolerance and love are in the region. Afterwards, we take you to the airport, concluding our tour.
We hope to meet again in another CEMGÖNCÜ TOURISM organization!
