Tour Detail
1: MARDİN-MİDYAT
At the airport, we meet our guide and start our breakfast (extra). Then we begin to explore Mardin. With a walk through Mardin’s narrow streets, we see and photograph the Mardin Museum, Latifiye Mosque, and one of the region's most important structures, the Ulu Mosque. Afterward, we visit the PTT building, which has hosted many series and films, and following our visit to the Şehidiye Mosque and Medrese, we pass through the Abbaras, which are symbols of Mardin, and board our vehicle to reach the Kasımiye Medrese. This extraordinary architecture, which provided university-level education during the Seljuk period, teaches us about the eyvan philosophy in the southeastern culture. After completing our tours, we turn our route towards the Deyrulzafaran Monastery, which was the center of the Syrian people in the world until 1932. After gaining information about the monastery, we move on to Midyat, known as Old Mardin. After some free time in the Telkari market, we reach the terrace of the guesthouse, which has hosted many series. Here, we capture beautiful photos and immortalize different views with the local yellow cut stone architecture. Following our visits to the Mor Gabriel Monastery, which the Syriacs call Deyrulumur, and Mor Behrem 40 Martyrs Church, we return to our hotel in Mardin for accommodation.
2. DAY: DARA-GÖBEKLİTEPE
After breakfast at the hotel, our first stop is Dara, known as the Ephesus of Mesopotamia. In this ancient city along the Silk Road, we examine the remnants of the world's first water dam, remnants of fire towers believed to be built in honor of Ahura Mazda, the god of Achaemenids, as well as a fortress (Daras Anastasiupolis), churches, a bridge, water channels, cisterns, bazaars, rock tombs, and remnants of civil residences. The interactions we have with the local people and their attempts to showcase the subtleties of Mesopotamian hospitality will prove how strong tolerance and love are in the region. After leaving a part of our heart here, we head to Göbeklitepe. The road will lead us to Göbeklitepe, one of the most important archaeological discoveries in human history, dating back 12,000 years, which deeply shakes the truths of written history and is believed to be the first worship center. Göbeklitepe, known as one of the oldest temples discovered to date, offers significant data regarding the religious beliefs of hunter-gatherer societies. We will discuss Göbeklitepe architecturally and socio-economically, and it will enlighten us about how the people of that era could create a sacred space to experience their groundbreaking beliefs, along with their religion, symbols, technologies, and sciences. Afterward, we return to the hotel for accommodation.
3. DAY: URFA- HARRAN
After our breakfast at the hotel, we move from the center of Şanlıurfa to Harran. Here, we visit the conical-roofed mud houses of Harran, the ancient ruins of Harran University, accepted as the world's first university, the historical Harran Castle from the time when Harran was the capital of the Umayyads, and the surrounding Harran walls. After visiting the tomb of the famous Sheikh Hayat al-Harrani, we will return to Urfa. We will visit HALİL-ÜR RAHMAN MOSQUE – AYN ZELİHA (BALIKLI GÖL) – RIZVANİYE MOSQUE, and the cave where Hz. Ibrahim was born, including Sipahi Bazaar, Kazzaz Bazaar, Hacı Kamil Han, Hüseyiniye Bazaar, Naccar Bazaar, the Historical Customs Inn, Ulucami, and the Kitchen Museum. After seeing the Archaeological Museum and the Mosaic Museum, we will drop you off at the airport to say our goodbyes.
