"As a result of the studies carried out to date, Göbeklitepe, one of the oldest known temples, is located in the Mesopotamian region. Göbeklitepe provides important data regarding religious belief in hunter-gatherer societies. Göbeklitepe, which we will address architecturally and then socio-economically, not only gives information about how the people of that period could create a sacred area in order to live their belief in a way that would break the mold, but also enlightens us about their religion, religious symbols, technology and sciences. Afterwards, we will move to our hotel, where we will have a traditional evening entertainment (extra), and after plenty of fun we will rest and prepare for the next day
DAY 2: HARRAN-SOGMATAR-KARAHAN TEPE
After the breakfast we will have at the hotel. Then departure for Harran. Here, after visiting the cone-roofed earthen Harran houses, the ancient remains of Harran University, accepted as the world’s first Islamic university, as well as the historical Harran Castle remaining from the period when Harran was the capital of the Umayyads and the Harran walls surrounding Harran, and the tomb of the region’s famous sheikh Hazrat Hayat al-Harrani, we head to Sogmatar. In Sogmatar, the region dated to the Roman period (2nd century AD) has been scientifically determined to have been a cult center where the Harranians in the Tektek Mountains region worshipped the moon and planet gods during the period of the Abgar Kingdom. In the Sogmatar cult site; there is a cave where the Moon god Sin is worshipped (Pognon Cave), a hill with god reliefs and inscriptions carved into the ground in places on its slopes (Sacred Hill), 6 mausoleums with square and round plans (Monumental Tombs), an inner castle, and many rock-cut tombs carved into the bedrock. Afterwards, we head to Karahantepe, a new discovery in world history, specially prepared for you and 400 years older than Göbeklitepe, where excavations are not yet complete.
