Tour Detail
Together with our guide waiting for us at the airport, we head towards Göbeklitepe. Göbeklitepe, one of the most important archaeological discoveries in human history, dated to 12,000 years ago, deeply shaking the truths of known written history and believed to be the first pilgrimage center, is located in the Mesopotamia region and is one of the oldest known temples based on the studies carried out to date. Göbeklitepe provides significant data on religious belief in hunter-gatherer societies. Göbeklitepe, which we will examine architecturally and later socio-economically, not only gives information about what kind of sacred area the people of the period could create in order to live their unconventional beliefs, but also enlightens us about their religion, religious symbols, technology, and sciences.
After completing our Göbeklitepe tour, we turn back towards the city center. HALİL-ÜR RAHMAN MOSQUE – AYN ZELİHA (FISH LAKE) – RIZVANİYE MOSQUE and the cave where Hz. Ibrahim was born, Sipahi Bazaar, Kazzaz Bazaar, Hacı Kamil Inn, Hüseyiniye Bazaar, Naccar Bazaar, Historic Customs Inn, Ulu Mosque and the Kitchen Museum; after visiting and touring, we then visit the archaeology museum and the mosaic museum. Afterwards, we leave you at our hotel for accommodation.
DAY 2: MARDİN-DARA
After breakfast at the hotel;
We head towards the museum city of Mardin. Our first stop here is Mor Behram Kırklar Church. After the information we receive from the church staff, we walk through Mardin’s narrow streets to see and photograph the Mardin Museum, Latifiye Mosque, and Ulu Mosque, one of the most important structures in the region. Then we visit the PTT building, which has hosted many TV series and films; after visiting Şehidiye Mosque and Madrasah, we pass through the Abbars, one of Mardin’s symbols, and get into our vehicle to reach Kasımiye Madrasah. In this extraordinary architecture, which provided education at the level of a university during the Seljuk period, we learn the eyvan philosophy in Southeastern culture. After completing our visits, we turn our route to Deyrulzafaran Monastery, which was the center of the Syriac people in the world until 1932. After the information we gain about the monastery, we go to Dara, known as the Ephesus of Mesopotamia. In this ancient city located on the Silk Road, while examining the remains of the world’s first water dam, the fire towers dedicated to Ahura Mazda, the god of the Achaemenids in antiquity, the fortress (Daras Anastasiupolis), church, bridge, water channels, cisterns, arasta, rock tombs, and remains of civilian settlement buildings, the interactions we will establish with the local people and their eagerness to offer us the subtleties of Mesopotamian hospitality will once again prove how strong tolerance and love are in the region. Then we end our tour by dropping you off at the airport.
